The Story of Bryant Dent

At the age of 19, Bryant Dent, a Chopticon High School graduate, suffered serious injuries in a car accident. At 6’6” tall he was a high school basketball player and all around athlete. His injuries left him completely paralyzed from the shoulders down. Now at the age of 37, Bryant has been a quadriplegic for the past 18 years. After his accident he spent many months in the hospital until he was released to his mother and grandmother’s care. His mother and grandmother cared for him at home until their health no longer allowed them to do so. They have both since passed away. Bryant now resides at the Chesapeake Shores nursing home in Great Mills, MD.

After 18 years of lying in a bed, Bryant has suffered from muscle atrophy and has just recently begun physical therapy. He attends physical therapy 2 to 3 days a week at the
NRH Regional Rehab in Hollywood, Maryland and is slowly starting to straighten his limbs and sit semi-upright. Due to his inability as a quadriplegic to sit up straight, Bryant requires a specialized wheelchair. He has been fitted for a “sip and puff” electric wheelchair. For the first time in 18 years, Bryant has the hope of life outside of a bed. His medical expenses are covered by Medicaid and
Medicare, which currently will not pay for the type of wheelchair that Bryant requires. This is why Bryant needs your support. The cost of the wheelchair that he will need is over $25,000. For one person this is a large amount, but with the help of people like you this can be a reality for him.
The Bryant Dent Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization established to first help Bryant and then others like him in Southern Maryland. Donations are greatly appreciated.
Donataions can be made on the donation page.
